This unique memorial park, strategically located on the grounds of the Patton Museum, pays tribute to the many armor units which served the nation, and is dedicated to the soldiers who served with the Armored Force during wars of the 20th century. 	150-year-old stone bridges predating the Civil War along a stretch of the historic "L&N" Turnpike are located in Fort Knox, and are part of a Heritage Walking Tour available during specific times. 	Fort Duffield, ordered built by General Sherman in 1861 to protect a Union supply route, is Kentucky's oldest, largest, and best-preserved Civil War Fort. It is on the National Register of Historic Places and on the Civil War Trust's Civil War Discovery Trail. 	Fort Knox is perhaps best-known for the United States Bullion Depository, or "Gold Vault", as it is affectionately called by millions around the world. The facility, with its security systems shrouded in secrecy, houses the largest portion of the United States' gold reserve. 	The Patton Museum of Cavalry and Armor is listed as one of the most visited sites in Kentucky. The facility derives its name from the famed World War II general, George S. Patton, Jr., and houses a tremendous amount of his personal effects. 	The Saunders Springs Nature Preserve is located on the edge of the Karst Plateau in the Highland Rim physiographic region of Kentucky. The area is characterized by many sinkholes, caves and springs which drain a network of underground caverns.   View Location on Map ( 169kb PDF)
	This self-guided trail was developed to display an area with a unique combination of natural beauty and nineteenth century history. The trail lies in an area of Fort Knox used for military training and as a result is sometimes closed to hikers. The trail may also be closed to hikers during some hunting seasons. Visitors using the Tioga Trail are required to strictly follow the regulations outlined on the back of this trail guide. 	In May of 1992, the Tribute to the Armored Soldier was dedicated in front of Radcliff City Hall.
